The chief engineer onboard the vessel manages all aspects of engine room operations including safety, maintenance, repairs, inventory along with management of the engineering team. The chief engineer effectively plans projects for large repairs/refits in coordination with routine maintenance. The chief engineer negotiates with contractors and manages financial aspects and time of all engineering projects. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Operational

  • Execute orders and assignments as given by captain chief officer to ensure safe operation of the vessel
  • Ultimate safety for engine room operations
  • Maintain the yacht's entire engineering operations
  • Advanced knowledge of all systems onboard; engines, generators, fuel polishing, plumbing, water makers, electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, computers, hydraulics, sanitation, elevators
  • Manages and supervises engine repairs and rehauls, plans for preventative maintenance for all mayor systems using In-Yacht planned maintenance system.
  • Maintains spare part inventory.
  • Maintain relationship and oversee contractors work to ensure absolute up to date maintenance of the vessel.
  • Assures quality and execution of shipyard works and preventive maintenance works.
  • Conduct pre-voyage inspections for all aspects of safe and successful voyage –Systems / Conditions / Deferred Defects / Restrictions / Limitations.
  • Ensure that all voyage planning requirements have been met.
  • Act quickly and appropriately during environmental changes and emergencies to ensure vessel and passenger safety.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the bridge.  

Management

  • Manages the second engineer and maintains crew discipline, arranges regular safety drills, setting schedules, ensures maintenance and inventory of spare parts.

Leadership

  • Directs the activities of the support engineering crew as required and ensures that all crew members understand fully and completely what duties they are expected to perform.
  • Maintain professional relationship with crew to ensure the safety, comfort and convenience of passengers.
  • Effectively identify, develop, support, and grow talent under his/her leadership.

Human Resources

  • Participates in crew management, hiring and recommends progressive disciplinary action in partnership with the Marina Bay Sands Human Resources Department.

Accounting/IT

  • Update the in yacht planning management software with issues and events.
  • The individual possesses in-depth knowledge of yacht management and safety in addition to financial administration.
  • Carry out administrative duties and reviews documents, financial payables and accounts and proposes forecasts and budgets of costs.

Compliance

  • Operate the vessel and aspects in accordance with the MBS Lifestyle Pte Ltd and Marina Bays Sands Pte Ltd standard operating procedures, checklists and limitations.
  • Ensure that vessel crew members have valid licenses, medical certificates, passport and visas as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Safety

  • Participates in the Safety Management System.
  • Participates in Emergency Response Plan.
  • Take charge in emergency situations and is last to abandon ship
  • Apply Operational Risks Aversion
  • Follow Marina Bay Sands Workplace Safety and Health Policy practices.
  • Report any work incidents; may include vandalism, fight, fire, abuse, accidents, etc.
  • Observe activities; report any suspicious characters, items and/or activities to support team at Marina Bay Sands.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with Marina Bay Sands senior management to ensure the highest levels of communication and understanding of all Paiza One lifestyle experience strategies.
  • Enable and support a culture of communication, collaboration, knowledge, and professional growth to build strong relationships amongst the OneMBS teams.
  • Prioritize his/her own professional development and work with the Executive Director Luxury Operations and the Captain to enhance skills sets with respect to leadership, communication, organization, and strategic development.
  • Work on other ad-hoc initiatives as required in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible days and hours as required by the business.
  • Maintain a healthy work/life balance
  • Contribute ideas in support of the company vision, mission, value, and guiding principles.

Miscellaneous

  • Practice well-mannered behavior and grooming according to company standards.
  • Attend schedules meetings as required.
  • Active involvement in Sands Care and sustainability programs.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as and when assigned by Management.

 

Job Requirements

Education & Certification

  • STCW III/1 or Similar

Experience

  • Experience with MTU engines
  • Experience with Caterpillar generator
  • 2-5 years’ experience as chief engineer on superyachts
  • 1-2 years' experience as an engineer on equivalent 44m superyachts

Competencies

  • Having a good command of spoken and written English.
  • Confident personality with great attitude towards crew
  • Apply risk aversion.
  • Mature, meticulous, resourceful, organized, and able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong communication, supervisory and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain professional appearance ensuring highest levels of services experiences for passengers.
  • Possesses excellent trouble shooting and expert technical engineering skills as well as thorough knowledge of the wide variety of engineering systems onboard.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and give directions in an emergency situation.
  • Must be able to travel and enter countries worldwide without restrictions and be eligible to apply for VISAS where these are required.
